Recognitions and Awards38. Tyler Dwyer, Keystone Heights High received Scholarship - Take Stock in Children Minutes: Tyler Dwyer, Keystone Heights High School, received a $40,000 scholarship from the Leaders 4 Life Fellowship. Tyler was one out of thousands of applicants to receive this scholarship. John Wakefield with Take Stock in Children was present for the recognition.

43. Advertise Amendments to CCSB Policy 6GX-10-1.02 The District School BoardAttachment: Policy Amendment (2).pdf Minutes: Speakers: Clinton Dosio and Stanley Pfenning offered public input on the school board policy changes.
The Board discussed an amendment to section E.1.c. of the policy and a vote was taken to advertise. Charlie Van Zant inquired about reviewing the policy item by item prior to approval to advertise. Mr. Farrell withdrew the motion and Lisa Graham withdrew the second for further discussion. Lengthy discussion ensued regarding other amendments throughout the policy. Amendments were recommended and ageed upon by the Board members. Bruce Bickner, School Board Attorney will incorporate the amendments and advertise the policy.

Social Studies AdoptionAttachment: Social Studies Adoption Board Back-Up2.16.12.pdf Minutes: Diane Kornegay, Assistant Superintendent for Instruction, gave a brief overview of the state and district textbook adoption. Lisa Jones, Supervisor of Instructional Resources, explained the current adoption cycle and Florida's statewide adoption process. State Statutes require that all materials being submitted must be reviewed first by state or national experts. The Commissioner of Education is in charge of adopting the textbooks to be on statewide adoption.

Superintendent for Business Affairs, briefly covered the current financial situation and reported that there have been no significant adjustments since the December report. Dr. Copeland thanked Mr. Wortham and Mrs. Adams for their support during questioning by bond issuers/advisors about the district's credit rating. The district has been informed that Clay County is among the few that have maintained their bond rating.

Presentations from the Audience47. Speakers Minutes: Speakers: Clinton Dosio offered a proposal for the workshop in March; Raymond Johnson addressed the Board on the prayer issue and Stanley Pfenning spoke on his email being blocked.
Superintendent Requests48. Comments Minutes: Superintendent Wortham complimented the participants of the Science Fair held on February 14, 2012. There were 450 projects and students participating in this event.
Superintendent Wortham also alerted the Board to a shooting incident in Middleburg in which one Clay County deputy was wounded and one deputy was killed. Please remember these officers and their families in your prayers.
School Board's Requests49. Review Use of Facilities/Grounds FormAttachment: Use of Facilities and Grounds Form.pdf Minutes: Charlie Van Zant inquired about the Certificate of Insurance requirement for use of school facilities. Dr. George Copeland explained the need for the certificate of insurance as protection against liability of injury to a group of citizens outside the realm of the Clay County School Board. 50. School Board Workshop Minutes: Mrs. Studdard announced that the School Board Workshop regarding religious activities is scheduled for March 1, 2012 at 6:00 p.m. in the Teacher Training Center at Fleming Island High. Attorneys Robert Sniffen and Roger Gannam are the experts in Constitutional Law that will be attending.
51. Comments Minutes: Janice Kerekes shared her experience at the Legislative meeting in Tallahassee in January where she was able to speak with other board members from all across the state. She congratulated our district and the efforts of the Superintendent and the senior staff in keeping Clay County District Schools in good shape in these difficult financial times.
